8 Weeks

Good morning friends! Hope you enjoyed my “one off” yesterday as I put on my sports writer hat. Going into the new year you will probably see a little more of that type of thing as I try to become a better overall writer. My mission is still the same, to remove the veil of deception from the minds and hearts of others, but what I have found is that can be done in many different ways. In any case, thank you for your support and the awesome comments that I have received.

So other day I totally missed that I passed my eight week mark since my hip replacement surgery. It has been a heck of a journey and while there have been hiccups along the way I do not regret in anyway getting it done. The pain I am in now is nothing compared to what it was before the surgery. There are some after effects to this no doubt, but I have been assured that they will soon go away and all will be great. In fact, in just 3 weeks I will be going back to work to once again annoy the heck out of my co-workers.

I go back to work on January 2 and along with that comes Phase 2 of my transformation. As most of you know I am a heavy man. At one point I was all the way up to 400 pounds. Obesity runs in my family so its always been a struggle but 400 pounds? Ouch! Since that point I have lost some weight; the last time I was at the doctor I chimed in at 368 so I am on the right path. Now, with my titanium hip in place, the pounds HAVE to come off; I simply have no choice if I want this hip to last the full 30 years that it needs to. I will probably go back to a version of the low-carb diet I was on before but Phase 2 WILL be a success. In fact, I have short term goal of walking a 2k in the spring to fully test this hip and get things going.

So, that is where I am at after eight weeks. Thank you all again for your prayers and support as get ever closer to the full transformation that I know I have to have. Remember, SMILE and LAUGH!!!

Peace and Grace,

David

Removing The Veil

Good morning again everyone! I am going to get right to it but before I do please note the following:

1. This blog post will be a bit longer than normal so know that going in

2. It deals with WAY different subject matter than I normally post on but I’m trying to expand my writing skills and this is something I am very passionate about.

3. Hold on!

Ok as someone that grew up in Miami in the 70’s and 80’s I have a unique perspective on sports in my hometown. Growing up we didn’t have many options as football was all we had. Quite honestly though its all we needed; the Dolphins were dominating the NFL and there wasn’t really a need or want for anything else. That did change though as Miami grew into a nationally recognized city for movies and things other than football. Honestly I…

Good morning again everyone! I am going to get right to it but before I do please note the following:

Ok as someone that grew up in Miami in the 70’s and 80’s I have a unique perspective on sports in my hometown. Growing up we didn’t have many options as football was all we had. Quite honestly though its all we needed; the Dolphins were dominating the NFL and there wasn’t really a need or want for anything else. That did change though as Miami grew into a nationally recognized city for movies and things other than football. Honestly I still to this day can only get real passionate about football but the other sports are growing on me.

I say all that to lay the foundation of what sports in Miami has become. Yesterday, Derek Jeter did to our Miami Marlins what the previous owners did the whole time they owned the team; displayed the level of ignorance that makes one wonder why MLB even has a team in Miami. For those that don’t understand, basically every time the Marlins are on the cusp of something special, they trade all the great players and start over in the name of the almighty dollar. Yes we have won two World Series Championships but even they were tainted by the fire sell that came the next year.

What has happened with the Marlins is a joke; a joke played by people that don’t care about the sport and more importantly the fans that pay their hard earned money to go to these games. Now Miami will always be a football town; if the Marlins were playing a World Series game at home and down the road the Dolphins were playing a playoff game at home NO-ONE would be at the Marlins game; its just the way it is. However, there is a large segment of the population that would love to see a new tradition started in baseball; Derek Jeter seems to be doing all he can to stop that however and its a travesty against the great fans in Miami.

I guess what makes it hard is the Dolphins have been mediocre for so long; the city is just in search of a winner. For those like me that grew up in an era where Miami could do no wrong, its a bitter pill to swallow sometimes. Miami fans deserve better; like it or not sports is a vital part of our society. It can bring us together in ways that nothing else can; all we need is a little hope that the people running our teams care about their fans and are willing to do what it takes to get us where we need to be.

All that said, last night we had some hope as my Fins took down the mighty Patriots. No one is giving them any credit this morning but us true fans know it had nothing to do with them having an off night but us giving them a hard night. For now, that is enough for this writer. Interestingly enough Derek Jeter was at the Dolphins game last night; hopefully he saw how fans react to a winner and took some good notes. This city deserves better; make it happen Jeter.

Thanks everyone for reading my diatribe in local sports. Let me know what you think at my first stab at it. Until then. SMILE!

Peace,

David
